I Am Able To Do More For You Than You Could Possibly Imagine

Ephesians 3:20 “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us”

When my children were young, they often believed I could do anything.  As toddlers and into their early elementary school years, my children saw me as a dad without limits on what I could do.  “Wow, Dad!  I didn’t know you could do that!”  “Dad, do that again.  That was really cool!”  “I love you, Dad!  You can do so many things!”  (Of course, that all changed as they got older and into their late elementary and teenage years).  But, I soaked up their belief that I could do anything.  I was a superhero capable of doing so many seemingly impossible things in their young eyes.  

While I knew my limits and was well aware there was so much I couldn’t do, it was true that I would do anything for them.  When my children asked me for something, they often got it plus more.  A seemingly simple request from them often generated a generous response from me.  I had a good job and worked hard to help provide for them.  They lacked for nothing, and it was a joy to give my children (more than) what they asked for.  Even in my imperfect, flawed, and all too often self-centered love, I was able to give them more than they asked for or could imagine.  Why?  I love them.  They are my children.  It was a joy to see them happy with what they received, and I desired to bless them as much as I could.  

I regularly go for early morning walks leaving the house at 5:30.  This is my time with God, and I use the 15-20 minutes as my prayer time.  Part of this prayer time is making my requests known to Him (Philippians 4:6).  While some requests are the same every morning (safety and health for loved ones and discernment for what He is calling me to do), I do ask God for many different things.  Admittedly, sometimes I feel guilty about what I request, or I pray hesitantly with wavering faith.  I sometimes question - or doubt - He can answer my prayers.  I need to be reminded of this verse every day.  God can do (and does) more than I can possibly imagine.  All I need to do is look around at the evidence that fills my life. His perfect and unconditional love for me is great and unfailing.  He desires to bless me with good things.  He is a good, good Father who pours out His love, grace, mercy, and forgiveness that is beyond what I can imagine.  Who He is and what He does, will do, and has done is immeasurable.  Praise God for His limitless power, sovereignty, omnipotence, and glory.
